In the News: How to Protect Your Phone From Surveillance

As digital surveillance at protests makes headlines, Mission Darkness faraday bags are being recognized as a must-have for protecting your phone’s location, data, and privacy.

Read this timely article to learn how faraday bags block tracking signals and keep your personal information secure: How to Use a Faraday Bag to Protect Your Location and Privacy at a Protest.

KEEP CELL PHONES AND SMALL DEVICES SHIELDED

The Mission Darkness™ Window Faraday Bag for Phones completely blocks all wireless signals and keeps small electronic devices shielded to prevent hacking, tracking, spying, and chain of custody corruption. When a cell phone is enclosed in the bag, no apps or malicious code can be remotely triggered or wiped, no communication can penetrate, and no one can access the microphone, camera, GPS location, or data.

In addition to law enforcement and military forensic evidence collection, defense against data theft, personal security, EMP protection, EMF radiation reduction, and enhancing digital privacy, the Window Faraday Bag offers a critical layer of protection for protesters, activists, journalists, and anyone attending high-risk events where digital surveillance is a concern. Enclosing your phone in the bag prevents real-time location tracking, cell tower pings, rogue IMSI catcher interception, and metadata harvesting—common tactics used by authorities and third parties to monitor and identify participants in public gatherings. The bag helps ensure anonymity, making it a vital tool for safeguarding personal freedom and privacy during protests and demonstrations.

The bag is built with a durable and water-resistant ballistic nylon outer material to ensure that devices and faraday fabric stay dry and protected. The interior includes two layers of high-shielding TitanRF™ Faraday Fabric on all sides with dual paired seam construction. The preview window allows the user to view contents inside, device battery life, and confirm signal cutoff. The bag will block all wireless signals including WiFi (2.4 & 5GHz), Bluetooth, cell signals including 5G networks, GPS, RFID, NFC, and radio signals from low MHz to 40GHz. Additional product features include a secure double roll with Velcro closure, unique serial number, and transparent branding pocket.

The bag is typically used to shield cell phones, passports, GPS units, transponders, two-way radios, keyfobs, smart watches, and similar size electronics.

Protect your anonymity with our top-rated phone faraday bags—designed specifically for protesters, activists, and anyone serious about digital privacy. As WIRED recently detailed in “How to Protest Safely in the Age of Surveillance,” smartphones can broadcast your presence at rallies, and law enforcement often uses IMSI catchers, cell‑tower data, and facial recognition to track participants.

Our Stay Invisible Collection features faraday bags that block cellular, GPS, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC signals—meaning your phone stays truly off the grid even if it’s powered on. Faraday bags offer a reliable alternative to airplane mode, reducing the risk you’ll be geotagged by rogue towers or passive surveillance devices.

How faraday bags helps you stay safe:

  • Complete signal blackout — blocks cell signals, GPS tracking, WiFi, Bluetooth, RFID, and NFC

  • Smart and burner phone compatible — prevent real-time location tracking and metadata leaks

Time will tell

I'm giving it 4 stars. Instead of five, for the closure. It closes with velcro and you have to fold it over to seal it. I'm not sure how secure that is. Or how long that would last since velcro wears out after many uses. I I'm giving it 4 stars. Instead of five, for the closure. It closes with velcro and you have to fold it over to seal it. I'm Not sure how secure that is. Or how long that would last since velcro wears out after many uses. I put my phone and car fob in the bag every night, so I hope the closure will hold up. I'm not sure how to test if it's working. So I guess only time will tell.

Window or windowless

The window faraday bag was the first Mission Darkness bag I purchased and I like it a lot. I bought 3 of the windowless bags and I'm equally happy with those as well. If you don't have a real need for the window then go with the one without the window for half the price.

It didn’t work as I wrote your customer service long time ago but received no answer. It still rang in the bag

I want more of them.

Arthritic hands have a hard time with the Velcro, if I have one constructive suggestion— it’s, “is there a way to design these to make it a tiny bit easier for those whose hands a a bit weaker?”

Perfect way to disappear and quiet the cell

It works perfectly. Blocks all signal. Size is generous for my huge cell phone and allows my large hand a comfortable amount of room to get the phone in and out. The top fold is a little tricky for me.but the bag has some body to it and is softening each time I fasten or unfasten it.
